I've been seeing a lot of rants about fetishes of DA. I don't quite understand it that much. Maybe I'm just young and naive but deviant does mean departing from usual or accepted standards, especially in social or sexual behavior, right? Which basically means fetishes. While I haven't watched that many rants on this matter, I have yet to see the ranter complain about how their fetish doesn't belong on DA. Most of them are just about foot and inflation fetishes. I don't exactly find those fetishes attractive, but doesn't mean that everyone is the same as me. I don't understand what the ranters hope to achieve by calling these fetishes "cancer" or "gross." Do they hope that the people who like those fetishes will automatically switch to their way of thinking? People don't complain about this anywhere else, for some reason it's just DA. I do know that most fetish artists don't put a mature content filter on their art pieces, but that is no excuse to shame them for what they find attractive. Just tell them that they need a mature content filter and if they don't put it on, report them.
Most people don't like Marysues, but calling them "edgy" or "cancer" (*cough* *cough* Savdraws) won't make the artist want to listen to your criticism. Critiques are made to improve a character and not make the artist feel bad about themselves and the character they created. If they don't want to change the character, so what? The end of the world isn't riding on them changing it. But, most of the OC rants I've seen (MOST! Some I've seen have been very informative and helped me critique my own OCs. When I say most, I'm mainly talking about Sav and a few others that aren't that well know. Pentagrin and Ponder Sprocket is definitely some of my favorites and if you don't know them, I suggest you look up them YouTube. they're really funny goof balls.), mainly try to mold the character into something they'd create. I know that sounds like it's okay, but they fail to see that everyone creates characters and writes backstories differently. if every character were written the same, they would be original. In Savdraws case, she says that rainbow hair is "cringy" and "a sure sign of a marysue" but Pastel (her friend) has an OC with rainbow hair and her color palette usually has bright rainbow colors. But Sav fails to call her out for that. She also has a Sonic OC that has an "edgy" look, but once agian Sav fails to call her out for that as well. This leads people to think that the way Sav thinks is 'if you're a friend of her, your OC is okay no matter what.'
Bases aren't as bad as people think. As long as they credit the original base maker, I don't see the problem. If you've been using bases for 2+ years without trying to draw on your own, then I see the problem. But, believe it or not, most base users are kids who want to draw like the people they look up to! I started of using bases, then I would trace the outline of the base, then I started drawing on my own. Bases aren't "cancer" they help kids! If a person uses a base, they get called lazy. When a person uploads a drawing they did with out a base for the first time, their art gets called terrible and makes them go back to bases. It's a lose lose situation for them and I don't think it's fair. Don't shame people for using bases. It's rude and the artist is most likely a child.
This journal was made to talk about my feelings on most rant topics and ranters. This wasn't meant to show a negative view on anyone (until I started ranting about Savdaws. If you couldn't tell, I don't favor her too much).
